AUDAIN ART MUSEUM
Whistler will soon host a permanent collection of British Columbia art from early times to the present day in the Audain Art Museum. Particular strengths will be an outstanding collection of nineteenth century Northwest Coast masks, one of Canada’s strongest Emily Carr collections, and a selection of Vancouver’s celebrated photo-based art. Michael Audain and Yoshiko Karasawa have chosen Whistler as the new home for their incredible art collection. The iconic 56,000-square-foot museum will house a unique collection of British Columbia art in the heart of Whistler Village, and will be a pillar of the cultural tourism experience in Whistler, British Columbia and beyond. The Audain Art Museum is expected to open fall 2015.
STONESEDGE GASTROPUB
With close to 40 years in the industry between them, Whistler husband and wife team, Jim Button and April Solonyka, have joined forces to open StonesEdge Gastropub. After a complete overhaul of locals’ hangout Kypriaki, Whistler’s newest gastropub opened its doors July 2014. StonesEdge offers creative and elegant pub fare such as falafel bites with spicy ancho barbecue sauce and Greek yogurt and bacon-infused Caesars through a bacon straw, all served at budget-friendly prices. Open from 8 a.m. – 1 a.m., StonesEdge, located across from the Whistler Conference Centre welcomes locals and visitors alike on one of Whistler’s sunniest and largest patios.
LA CANTINA – URBAN TACO BAR
From the owner of the very successful Mexican Corner, La Cantina – Urban Taco Bar opened August 2014 as a gathering place to eat, drink and hang out with friends and family. It offers a selection of tacos that appeal to a wide audience. La Cantina tacos include, classic Mexican, vegan, vegetarian and the chef’s innovative fusions. All items are 100% gluten free (including a selection of beer!). La Cantina’s flavours from all frontiers will have you coming back for more.
BEACON PUB & EATERY
The Crystal Lodge & Suites is now home to a new neighbourhood pub. Beacon Pub & Eatery (formerly Citta Bistro) underwent renovations throughout the month of June 2014 to provide this prime location, in the heart of Whistler Village, with an updated look and atmosphere. The Beacon Pub & Eatery features a new menu and fresh selection of beer, wine and liquor.
DELTA WHISTLER VILLAGE SUITES FRESHENS UP
The Delta Whistler Village Suites is receiving a fresh new look in 2014. All 225 guestrooms are undergoing a $7 million renovation set to be compete late fall 2014. The hotel will also be home to The Brickworks Public House, a new 75-person neighbourhood pub with a BBQ/smokehouse theme scheduled to open spring 2014. One of Whistler’s all-suite full-service hotel, Delta Whistler Village Suites is located in the heart of Whistler Village, steps away from trendy shops, restaurants, exciting nightlife and more.
FAIRMONT CHATEAU WHISTLER CONDIMENT COCKTAILS
The team at The Fairmont Chateau Whistler has taken familiar condiments and turned them into a quirky condiment cocktail series for 2014. It all began in 2013 with their mustard sensation, The Sinapis Alba. Now the hotel’s Mallard Lounge has launched a spring horseradish cocktail, which will be followed by wasabi in the summer, an autumnal jam (after the berry harvest) cocktail, and finishing the series with cranberry sauce for the Holidays.
